How to connect the K16 optical module

Currently, the K16 does not have an officially supported optical module, so installation instructions are not provided; any insertion should follow general hardware safety and compatibility guidelines.Understanding the K16 and Optical Modules

The CANRIA K16 ARTNET+DMX controller is designed for professional LED lighting control, supporting DMX512 and Art-Net protocols, with connections for SPI-TTL LED strips, SD cards, and network interfaces . While the device may eventually support optical modules, no official module has been released or documented for the K16 . This means there is no manufacturer-provided procedure for inserting an optical module.

General Guidelines for Installing Optical Modules

If you are working with a compatible optical module in the future, follow these general steps:

  1. Power Off the Device: Always disconnect the K16 from AC power before attempting any hardware installation to prevent electrical damage or injury.
  2. Locate the Module Slot: Identify the designated port or slot for optical modules. On similar controllers, this is often a small port labeled for fiber or optical input/output.
  3. Check Compatibility: Ensure the optical module matches the K16's interface type (e.g., SFP, fiber optic connector) and voltage requirements.
  4. Insert Carefully: Align the module with the slot, ensuring the connector pins or fiber interface are properly oriented. Gently push until it clicks or seats fully without forcing it.
  5. Secure the Module: If the module has a locking mechanism or screws, fasten them to prevent movement during operation.
  6. Reconnect Power and Test: Power on the K16 and verify that the module is recognized. Check the display or software interface for connectivity status.
  7. Follow Software Configuration: If the module is detected, configure the K16 settings to use the optical input/output as needed for your lighting setup.
Precautions
  • Avoid touching the optical connector tips to prevent contamination or damage.
  • Do not force the module into the slot; misalignment can damage both the module and the controller.
  • Only use modules that are confirmed compatible with the K16 to prevent hardware failure. Since the K16 currently does not officially support an optical module, any installation should be approached cautiously, and it is recommended to wait for official accessories and instructions from the manufacturer .
