Right Angle 200 Cable Tray

A 200 mm cable tray can be bent to a 90° angle using either pre-fabricated bends or on-site fabrication with cutting, bending, and rejoining techniques.Using Pre-Fabricated 90° Bends

For standard installations, pre-fabricated 90° bends are available for 200 mm wide cable trays. These are typically made of galvanized metal and can be connected to straight tray sections using screws, bolts, or rivets. Installation involves inserting the tray ends into the bend and securing them with fasteners, ensuring a stable and organized cable path . Pre-fabricated bends are ideal for quick assembly and consistent angles.

On-Site Fabrication of a 90° Bend

If a pre-fabricated bend is not available, a 200 mm cable tray can be bent on-site using the following steps :

  1. Marking the Bend: Determine the 90° angle and mark the centerline and sides of the tray. Divide the bend into equal segments (e.g., 3 or 5) to create a smooth curve.
  2. Cutting Side Walls: Cut triangular or rectangular sections along the side walls where the bend will occur. These cuts allow the tray to fold without deforming.
  3. Forming the Bend: Use a manual bender, press brake, or other bending tools to gradually bend each segment to form the 90° angle. Ensure uniform bending to maintain structural integrity.
  4. Rejoining Side Walls: After bending, rejoin the cut sections using welding or bolting/riveting with metal strips for reinforcement.
  5. Drilling Connection Holes: Drill holes at each end of the bend to connect it to straight tray sections using nuts and bolts.
Tools and Materials Required
  • Galvanized sheet (1.6 mm or as per design)
  • Measuring tape, marker, or scriber
  • Angle grinder or metal shear
  • Drill machine
  • Rivets, nuts, and bolts
  • Manual or hydraulic bending tools
  • Welding machine (optional for reinforcement)
Tips for Smooth Installation
  • Ensure the bend radius is sufficient to prevent cable damage.
  • Use protective caps on cut ends if using wire mesh trays to maintain safety and corrosion resistance .
  • Verify alignment with existing tray runs before final fastening.
  • For complex layouts, consider calculating cut-out sections to achieve precise angles and offsets . By following these methods, a 200 mm cable tray can be installed at right angles safely and efficiently, either using pre-fabricated components or custom on-site fabrication.
