How to Choose Fireproof Cable Trays in Vanuatu

Select fireproof cable trays based on fire rating, material suitability for tropical climates, mechanical strength, and proper firestopping measures.Material Selection

For Vanuatu's tropical and humid environment, corrosion-resistant materials are essential. Hot-dip galvanized steel or stainless steel trays are recommended for outdoor or high-humidity areas, while aluminum alloy or fiberglass-reinforced plastic trays can be used in highly corrosive or coastal locations to prevent rust and degradation . Indoor installations can use painted steel or standard galvanized trays.

Fire Resistance

Choose trays with a defined fire integrity rating (e.g., EI 60, 90, 120) to ensure they maintain structural integrity during a fire . Fireproofing can be achieved through intumescent coatings, aluminized polypropylene scrim wraps, or specialized fire protection tapes like FLAMMOTECT-A or DG-CR 0.7, which also provide resistance to UV, moisture, and chemicals .

Tray Design and Load Capacity

Select tray width and thickness according to the number and weight of cables, ensuring mechanical strength to prevent deformation under full load . Maintain proper separation of power and signal cables to reduce electromagnetic interference and simplify maintenance.

Installation and Firestopping

Proper installation is critical. Trays should be level, plumb, and securely mounted, with horizontal deviation ≤2mm/m and vertical deviation ≤3mm/m . For wall or slab penetrations, use firestop materials such as fire-rated boards, mineral wool, or intumescent caulks, ensuring gaps are sealed tightly and waterstops are installed where necessary . Large openings may require fire-resistant backing plates.

Environmental Considerations

Vanuatu's climate requires attention to humidity, salt air, and UV exposure. Fireproof coatings and wraps should also provide environmental protection to maintain cable functionality during fire events and harsh weather conditions .

Compliance and Standards

Ensure that selected trays and fireproofing systems comply with international standards (e.g., CE marking, local electrical codes) and project-specific fire safety requirements. Consulting local building regulations and fire safety authorities in Vanuatu is recommended to ensure compliance. By combining appropriate material selection, fireproofing methods, mechanical design, and proper installation, you can ensure that cable trays in Vanuatu are both fire-resistant and durable in tropical conditions.
